Journalist and editor Chudamani Timsina (C.M. Sharma) has been honored with the D. Kaudinya Memorial Journalism Award–2083, established in memory of people-oriented journalist and litterateur Dev Kumar Acharya (D. Kaudinya).
The award was presented on Thursday during a special ceremony held in Birtamod, Jhapa, on the occasion of D. Kaudinya Memorial Day. Timsina, who is also the editor of Thos Khabar Dot Com, is a resident of Surunga, Kankai Municipality.
The award was presented by the chief guest, Koshi Province’s former Minister for Economic Affairs, Indra Angbo “Mausam.” Timsina received a shawl, a cash prize of NPR 42,000, and a certificate of honor. On the occasion, Sunita Timsina, wife of the award recipient, and Yamuna Acharya, wife of the late D. Kaudinya, were also honored with shawls.
The award is presented annually by the Press Center Nepal, Jhapa District Coordination Committee, in memory of journalist Dev Kumar Acharya, who was arrested by the then Royal Nepalese Army on Shrawan 7, 2059 (B.S.), taken to the Charali Army Barracks in Jhapa, and later killed.
Speaking at the ceremony were Ambika Bhandari, Vice President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Koshi Province; Ekaraj Giri, President of FNJ Jhapa; Arjun Rajbanshi, member of the Provincial Communication Foundation, Koshi; Dipin Rai, Central Secretary of Press Center Nepal; Tirtha Sigdel, Central Vice President of the Socialist Press Organization; and Khadga Prasad (Pawan) Timsina, Coordinator of the Communist Party of Nepal, Jhapa. The speakers highlighted the contributions of both the award recipient and the late D. Kaudinya.
The program was attended by representatives of various media organizations and social leaders. During the event, Vice President Hom Prakash Adhikari shed light on the life and contributions of the late D. Kaudinya. The program was hosted by Secretary Prakash Upreti, while the welcome remarks were delivered by Joint Secretary Rajan Sampang.
